Overview
This document covers the basic requirements on how to format .csv lists that can be uploaded into the El Toro Portal, in order to generate audiences.
.CSV List Formatting
Properly formatting your lists is essential to creating your target audiences in the El Toro Portal. Our system is designed to accept and process .csv files only. Lists should be uploaded as a .csv file type to your Audience Library or directly to an order line during campaign creation. The maximum accepted file size for a .csv file is 4.2 MB.
Each target type has a different set of required columns to upload the file into the El Toro Portal. Below is a detailed breakdown of the columns we require for each target type. Additional fields can be included in the file, but they will be ignored by our system and will not be processed.
-
B2C List - The .csv file should contain one column with Address 1 and one column with ZIP codes (ZIP5).
-
B2B List - The .csv file should contain one column with Address 1 and one column with ZIP codes (ZIP5).
-
Digital Canvassing List - The .csv file should contain one column with Address 1 and one column with ZIP codes (ZIP5). Note, for Digital Canvassing, the submitted addresses will be removed from the targeting list, and will instead be composed of neighbors from the original list.
-
ZIP Code List - The .csv file should contain one column with ZIP codes (ZIP5).
-
IP Address List - The .csv file should contain one column with IPv4 addresses.
Best Practices
-
Ensure that your data is complete and does not contain information gaps like partial street addresses or blank cells.
-
Format ZIP codes as a 5-digit code, not ZIP + 4.
-
For ZIP 5s that start with 0, please include the 0 so that all ZIPs in the .csv file have 5 digits.
-
Avoid commas or special characters.
-
Make sure that each data point is in separate a column, each with its own column header.
FAQs
-
Q: Do I need to delete additional columns from my audience list before uploading?
-
A: You may have additional columns such as Last Name, Address 2, Apt., City, etc., but they are not required for our quoting process and will be ignored. If additional columns are included, they must be in separate columns from Address 1 and ZIP codes, and each unnecessary column should have its own header. For this additional data to be included in the append file you must change the column type to select the appropriate data point.

-
Q: How long should it take for my audience list to quote?
-
A: It can take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours based on the size of the file. If you think the list is taking longer than expected to quote, please contact support.
-
-
Q: Why does my list have a low number of matches?
-
A: Many factors can affect the match rate on an audience list, including a list with incomplete data or incorrect formatting. The match rate may also be influenced by geographic area.
-
-
Q: How accurate are the matched IPs?
-
A: Our algorithm matches IPs at a 95% or higher accuracy rate.
