Overview
This document covers what exclusion audiences are and how to request them.
Exclusion Audiences
Exclusion audiences are audience segments that have been designated to block matches from the eligible target pool for a given order line.
This feature allows clients to exclude prospects from receiving targeted ads for their campaigns. For example, this can be used to exclude customers who have recently purchased from them or for political advertisers to exclude voters who have already voted.
For instance, let’s say a political agency wants to target 10,000 households to persuade them to donate to their campaign. Halfway through the order line flight, there are 500 donations. Since those people have already donated, the client no longer wants to target them with ads. The list of the 500 addresses from the donors can then be added to the order line as an exclusion audience and the people on that exclusion audience will no longer be targeted.
How to Set up an Exclusion List
Step 1: First, upload or generate your audience. To learn more about this process, please review the following documentation Audiences – El Toro Support Center.
Step 2: Next, prepare an order line and attach the audience segment that you wish to exclude to the order line.
Step 3: After that, reach out to support@eltoro.com with the order line link and exclusion audience link(s), and our support staff will handle the adjustment. Once our team has added the exclusion audience you will see how many households are excluded, shown in the screenshot below.
FAQs
- Q: How do I ensure the correct audience is excluded?
-
A: When submitting a support request for us to exclude audiences, please include the order line and audience names, and portal links or IDs. Portal links and IDs are unique and are the preferred identifiers, to ensure we are adjusting the correct segment on the right order line.
-
- Q: How do exclusion audiences affect my frequency?
-
A: Exclusion audiences should be compared to the included audience segments when planning the order line. By viewing the appends of the included and excluded segments, you can calculate your true target pool size. This allows for more accurate budgeting.
